It is estimated that businesses in the UK lose over 30 billion pounds every year due to missed calls. Studies show that 80% of all businesses in the UK use telephone communication. That is a big percentage of businesses here in the UK but it also means that there isn’t enough staff to warrant them being able to interact with all their clients, which is where messaging services come in handy. Studies also show that roughly 85% of people whose calls aren’t answered don’t call back because they don’t want to wait around any longer than they have to. With a messaging service on hand, this would no longer be a problem as there would be someone on hand 24/7 to make sure that your company never misses a call again. On average, a business will miss 15% of it incoming calls.
It has been investigated that it is the smaller businesses that actually lose out on more money than the bigger businesses. A study conducted in April 2013 through to March 2014, shows that about 63,400 very small businesses with 20-49 workers, lost a total of around £36,518,400.
It is important to keep your clients happy as it means that if they aren’t happy then you could lose them and that will have a negative impact on your business. More than 60% of unhappy clients will take their business elsewhere if they aren’t happy with the service that they have received. Studies have also shown that people will tell 1.6 times as many people about a company’s bad customer service than their good customer service.
From looking at these statistics, I am surprised at how much money businesses are losing out on as I didn’t expect it to be as high as it is. I am also surprised at the amount of people who won’t leave a voicemail when their call is unanswered. It’s not that hard!
BT internet says “One fifth will only call once and it estimates the cost of missing just one customer call is around 1,200 pounds which means that the UKs small and medium sized businesses could be losing out to the tune of around 90million pounds by not being available to speak to potential customers”.
